Newsletter data, purpose, and legal basis

The Field Notes form sends the email address, consent choice, and technical subscription metadata to MailerLite. The sole purpose is to send free lessons, project notes, and closely related editorial updates. No advertising or commercial offers are sent. The legal basis is consent under Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. Refusing or withdrawing consent has no effect on access to the lessons and public articles.

Subscription uses double opt-in. A request is not treated as an active subscription until the address holder confirms it. Consent can be withdrawn at any time through the unsubscribe link in every issue or by emailing the address above. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing.

Website enquiries

The public contact route is direct email. Any name, email address, optional affiliation, and message sent that way are used only to evaluate and answer the enquiry; they are never added to Field Notes without a separate opt-in.

Processors and transfers

Hostinger International Ltd provides public website hosting and may process request and security-log data. MailerLite Limited provides subscriber-list and email-delivery services. MailerLite states that its new platform uses EU data storage and its data-processing addendum provides safeguards, including standard contractual clauses, where an international transfer applies. Retention

Active subscriber data is retained until consent is withdrawn or the service ends. After unsubscribe, only the minimum suppression and consent evidence needed to honour the opt-out and demonstrate compliance is retained, and it is removed or anonymised when those purposes and applicable limitation periods end. Ordinary unanswered enquiries are reviewed for deletion after 12 months; records connected to an ongoing relationship or legal claim may be kept for the period required by that purpose.

Analytics and cookies

We measure use of published pages and resources to understand what helps readers and where the learning experience needs work. Our audience counters run in our Hostinger account. They count page openings, broad referral categories such as LinkedIn or search, and actions such as starting an exercise or clicking a resource. We use the resulting statistics only to maintain and improve this publication.

We also use Matomo in the same hosting account to estimate visits. It receives approved page paths, event names and limited referral information. IP addresses are shortened before they are stored or used to group actions. Basic browser and operating-system information can be derived from normal connection headers. A temporary code, specific to this site and refreshed daily, helps group activity into estimated visits. A separate random page-view code associates actions with one page opening. Neither code is linked to an account or email address.

Matomo does not set analytics cookies or store a visitor identifier in your browser. We do not collect screen resolution or browser-plugin details, and individual browsing profiles and visit-log reports are disabled. Visit and visitor figures are estimates; they do not identify a person or reliably recognise someone returning on another device. Detailed measurement records older than 90 days are automatically deleted during scheduled cleanup. Aggregate reports are kept for the current calendar month and the previous two months.

Our separate daily counters do not assign a visitor identifier or store IP addresses or browser details. A new random nonce prevents each event request from being counted twice. Its hash is removed after 24 hours and cannot connect separate events to a visitor. These daily totals are deleted after 90 days.

Measurement payloads exclude query strings, URL fragments, full external referral URLs, form contents, email addresses and exercise answers. Account and administration pages are excluded. Navigation events are not joined to learning accounts or the newsletter subscriber list, and we do not use them for advertising or tracking across websites. A newsletter click or confirmation-page opening is not proof of a confirmed subscription.

You can turn audience measurement off below. We also honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals. Only your measurement preference is saved in browser storage for this purpose. Ordinary hosting and security logs are separate and may contain connection details needed to operate and protect the website. No advertising cookies are used.

Learning accounts and progress

The language selector offers English and Spanish. A functional cookie called anp_locale remembers your choice for up to 365 days, and browser storage synchronises it between tabs. For a confirmed learning account, we also store the chosen language in the account database so it follows you to another device. You can change it at any time. This preference does not identify visits for analytics and is included when you request account access or deletion.

Lesson 1 is public. The other available numbered lessons require a free account and a confirmed email address. Block A is open; later blocks are coming soon. Account data includes your email, a protected password hash, sign-in sessions, and the exercise inputs and completed levels you submit. Hostinger hosts the account database and sends confirmation and password reset emails. We use this data to provide the learning service you request and protect access to your account. Registering does not subscribe you to the newsletter.

We use account creation dates, current email confirmation status, lesson completion counts and the last saved progress update to operate the course and answer learner enquiries. Account and progress information is not published, and no automated decisions about you are made from these records.

Strictly necessary cookies keep you signed in and link your anonymous first-lesson progress to this browser. They last up to 30 days. When you first sign in using the same browser, previously validated first-lesson work can move to your account. Changing local browser records cannot unlock later lessons. Unsent edits remain in the page until you submit the exercise.

Use the supplied teaching examples. Do not include confidential company information in your exercise answers. We keep account progress while you use the account, until you request deletion or the learning service ends. Anonymous progress is eligible for deletion after 30 days without activity. Temporary email delivery records are kept for the rolling 24-hour sending limit; link content is removed after the delivery attempt or expiry. Backups may retain deleted records until the hosting backup cycle replaces them.

To request a copy of your account data or close the account, write from your registered address to contact@ainativepower.com. The light or dark display preference stays on your device. Older practice checkpoints can remain in browser storage; they are not imported as verified progress. Clearing browser data removes these local values and signs you out, but does not delete the account or its saved server records.

Submitted learning responses

When you submit an exercise, we keep a private copy of its written reflections and expectations linked to your learning account. We also record each submitted small-check answer, whether it was correct for that question, and whether the checkpoint was already complete. These records help Rafael find unclear explanations and improve the course. They are separate from visitor analytics and are not published.

We record submitted answers, not keystrokes or unsent drafts. Optional practice and project reflections are sent only when you choose Save my reflection. We do not add Python code, uploaded CSV files or model files to this response report. Recorded quiz choices from your first lesson can move to your account when you sign in on that browser.

Diagnostic history is kept for up to 365 days from recording, or 30 days for an unclaimed first-lesson browser. The work saved in your course progress keeps its separate retention described above. Some earlier written reflections can be copied from existing saved work, with their original submission date marked as unknown. We cannot reconstruct incorrect quiz choices made before answer recording was introduced. Account access and deletion requests also cover these linked response records.

Optional lesson feedback

You can send a rating from 1 to 5 stars and an optional comment about a lesson or block. Feedback is stored in Hostinger, is not published and is read by Rafael to improve the course. It does not affect your progress, newsletter subscription or audience-measurement preferences.

A rating is linked to your learning account or, for the public first lesson, its existing necessary browser cookie. First-lesson feedback can move to your account when you sign in on the same browser. An existing account rating takes priority. No extra tracking cookie is added. Please do not include confidential or unnecessary personal information.

You can update or delete your feedback in its form, or request access or deletion using the contact address above. Feedback is kept for up to 365 days after its last update, unless deleted sooner. Account-data requests also cover linked feedback. Hosting backups may retain deleted records until the backup cycle replaces them.

Python lessons, the Buck surrogate tool, and runtime downloads

When you choose to run a Python cell or the Buck surrogate tool, your browser downloads the pinned Pyodide runtime and scientific libraries from jsDelivr. Those resource requests expose normal connection information, such as your IP address, to that provider. The lesson and tool do not upload your selected CSV, Python code, fitted model, predictions, or downloaded report to our server, and these items are not joined to an account, learning progress, or audience measurement.

The Buck tool copies one selected CSV into the browser worker's temporary memory. Cancelling the run, reaching the time limit, leaving the page, or restarting the tool terminates that worker and clears its temporary file and fitted model. A report or prediction file leaves the browser only if you choose to download it. Editable lesson Python can make network requests permitted by the site policy, so run your own code or the supplied examples. Restarting lesson Python clears its in-memory files; it does not clear downloaded files or your saved lesson progress.

Rights and complaints

You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, or objection, and may withdraw consent, by writing to contact@ainativepower.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency. No solely automated decision with legal or similarly significant effect is made from newsletter or enquiry data.
